Reflection on a presentation

Describe the artifact

This is a video of a presentation I gave to a group of lecturers about assessment. I gave the presentation in 2007 in a video conference suite so I had the opportunity to get a recording of the session. I wanted to learn more about my ability to present and gain ideas for improvement as well as giving a realistic view of my ability as a presenter.

Inform

There are some positive things in the video. I thought the presentation had a reasonably relaxed style to it. One aspect that surprised me was I was often very quiet. I am softly spoken but I felt in presentations I make an effort to speak loudly. I need to speak louder. There was also some nervous behaviour showing. I have come a long way since my stage fright of an undergraduate but nervous behaviour was evident.

Confront

I thought that I had a relaxed style in presentations. I can worry about them but I thought that I portray a relaxed, confident style. This was the case to some extent. Certainly I am far more confident in presentations than I used to be.

Reconstruct

The easy aspect to improve is to speak up or go to a mike and get amplified. Another more difficult behaviour is to appear more confident. To do this I need to reduce the fear I have of presentations. I will examine what I am afraid of and work on being more confident.
