ePortfolios in Teacher Education

From February 2008 'till December 2009, I was based in the School of Teacher Education Practice in the Faculty of Education, University of Auckland. I was working on a project to investigate the use of e-portfolios in teacher education to enable students to demonstrate their achievement against the 'Gradutating Teacher Standards' brought out by the New Zealand Teachers Council in January 2008.

My first challenge to the instigation of the e-portfolio project came when i was questioned in my first week as to why the 'e'. This was from a senior well respected staff developer who had been involved in e-learning for some time and so i was a little taken back. My response was that in this age of digital technologies and the exposure to multimedia that the children get, for teacher education especially, how can we not take the 'e' route.
