Video in MyPortfolio
Video in MyPortfolioCraig Eves email me about video formats. I have been having trouble with wmv, avi and mp4 codecs. He checked the types supported and said:
I found some info on the file types supported - I checked myportfolio.ac and it looks like wmv video files are supported and enabled so not sure what the message is about - possibly they were disabled at some stage.
Can you give me the address of the view with the wmv files if possible and I'll check this out.
The list below are the files supported with the plugins
Configure which file types users can embed into this block. Note that types disabled by the files artefact plugin cannot be enabled. If you disable a filetype that has already been used in a block, it will not be rendered anymore

Controlled groups
Controlled groupsCourse controlled groups behave differently to standard groups in that the View can not be edited by others in the group. They can in standard groups but not in course controlled or course request membership groups.
If you want to add a file to a Group View it has to be loaded into the Group Files section. This is a bit of a pain. At least you can hide the files in the Files section from the rest of the group.
Can the blog engine publish back to a web site?
Can the blog engine publish back to a web site?Andy Kirk from Flexible Learning Network responds
My portfolio’s blogging tool currently allows you to create multiple blogs and add posts to them. Blogs can be added wholly, individually or in title summary by adding them to a View. It is up to you then who you assign access rights to with your View and the blog and any other artefacts contained within it.
Part of the roadmap includes development of RSS out for Mahara/My Portfolio blogs. And of course, you can import in RSS feeds and add to a View from any existing Blogs that you or colleagues already have up and running. Here’s a View I have created which includes a content block of my recent My Portfolio blog posts, then further down the screen a block containing an RSS feed from an external site (See this View).
There is a discussion on the Mahara forum about the ability to publish blogs
How can MyPortfolio deal with group access or sharing of content?
How can MyPortfolio deal with group access or sharing of content? You can share resources by creating a View and adding access rights to a Group. An example of how to do create a View is available as is a demonstration on creating a Group.
A scenario of how this could work is that a student wants to share an assignment with the rest of the class. The student would create a View and invite others to see it. The class could then provide comments on the View.
